A look around The Quarry in Shrewsbury. Part of the park is known as The Dingle. The park was first created in 1719. The part of the park that runs alongside the River Severn. A statue of Hercules. The labours of Hercules The statue of Hercules - a lead copy of the famous Farnese Hercules - dates from the early 18th Century and is attributed to Jan Van Nost. The statue was moved to the entrance of The Quarry in 1851 with his back to the town so as not to offend womenfolk! He assumed his present position in 1881. The statue is Grade II listed. Inscription on plinth reads "Copy of the statue executed by the Athenian Sculptor Glycon and known as the Farnese Hercules". Originally at Condover Hall.
