Summary
[edit]DescriptionHeraldic tapestry with Medici coat of arms.jpg |
English: Heraldic tapestry with Medici coat of arms by Alessandro Rosi (design and cartoon), Matteo Benvenuti (weaving), 1693-1698.
The tapestry comes from the weaving of the same model, replicated in several examples with small variations. The coat-of-arms of the Medici family, represented by a shield with a gold background on which stand six bisants (five red and the upper one blue with three gilded fleurs-de-lis of France, granted as an honour in 1465 by the King of France Louis XI to Piero il Gottoso) probably derives from that of the Arte del Cambio to which the family was linked for its work. |
