| Description |
English: Henrietta Street, Whitby. In the mid-18C this street was considered to be a desirable residential area, but in 1787 much of it was destroyed by a landslide. Further houses were lost by landslides in 1870 and 1923. (Information from Hugh P Kendal, The streets of Whitby and their associations, 1948). The car park on the left is probably on land made vacant bt one of these catastrophies. The first building on the left is Fortune's kipper shop. The smoke against the gable-end behind is from the shed at the rear of the shop (see 1457006). |
