| Description |
One minute mini video of a Florida Harvester Ant (Pogonomyrmex badius) community at Juno Dunes. The 10 second scenes include: 1. Concentric ring of debris & seed husks surrounded the entrance. 2. The clever reinforced entry and workers sculpting the entry. 3. Major & minor workers doing maintenance. 4. Busy work. 5. Work crew "cooperating" (more like a tug of war) to move debris. 6. Major worker patrolling the perimeter. This beautiful community was constructed off the main path through the ancient sand dunes on a newly cut path (fire break?) to avoid most foot traffic but the entry was accidentally run over by official vehicles turning around, so the ants moved it again (the drivers could not know they were there). There are many colonies in Juno Dunes & Jupiter Ridge. |
