Description |
Built by the Whitehaven Ship Building Company (yard no. 31) in 1877 as the Buttermere, this vessel was destined for a truly international career. First owners were Fisher & Sprott of Liverpool, then from 1889 under German flag, owned by Carsten Carsten Brandt of Blankenese (Hamburg). In 1895 she was sold to H. Hoh, also of Blankenese, and the name was changed to Freia. In 1907 sold to Freia A/S of Lillesand, Norway, and then in 1916 to Bjelland & Hansen, Kristiania (Oslo). The third Norwegian owners were A. B. Eitved of Kristiania (Oslo), who changed her name to Freya. In 1919 she was bought by the French shipping company Pappas & Presser of Le Havre, who had her registered under Danish flag in Marstal as the Pax, with Rasmus Kromann Bager as administrator. In February 1927 (other source says 1928) she was sold for scrap to a company in Genova, Italy. jmarcussen.dk. shippingandshipbuilding.uk. |
