Halfpenny of Edward III from Swinhope
Description
English: Silver

Coin. Long cross Halfpenny of Edward III (1327-1377), third or florin coinage of 1344-1351, c.f. North 1991 page 48 no. 1131. This coin is in fine condition.

Obverse description: Facing bust with bare shoulders compressed to a flat triangle, triangular face with almond eyes and downturned mouth, wearing bifoliate crown with central clover leaf fleur. Initial cross pattee with smaller top part or (North 1991 page 42) Cross 3.

Obverse inscription: EDWARDVS REX, the E is of North's (page 43) form 2, 3 or 7. A curving stroke separates the E and X of REX.

Reverse description: Long cross, three pellets in each angle.

Reverse inscription: CIVI/TAS/LON/DON, Lombardic N.

Diameter: 15.3mm, Weight: 0.61gms, die axis: 9
