Description The Royal Australian Navy cruiser HMAS Shropshire (73) underway in 1943. Following the loss of HMAS Canberra (D33) in August 1942, it was decided to transfer the British cruiser to Australia. Shropshire underwent refit at Chatham, Kent (UK), from December 1942 until 20 June 1943 and was commissioned in the RAN in April 1943.
