[edit]Lawson, Cyclist, Killed. German Rider Also Loses His Life In Accident. A Third Man Dying. Cologne, Germany; September 8, 1913. Gus Lawson, an American cyclist, and Scheuermann, German rider, are dead, and Bleinhold, the German racer's pacemaker, is dying as the result of an accident to-day in the hundred kilometer motor-paced bicycle championship race here. While Lawson was pacing Guignard. Frenchman, a tire of Lawson's motor cycle burst, and the racers were hurled to the bottom of the track. Lawson's skull and both arms were fractured and he was injured infernally. Lawson came here from Los Angeles and was considered in cycling circles the best pacemaker in the world. He was a brother of the noted cyclist, Iver Lawson, of Salt Lake City.
