עברית: אתר זיכרון בפרייבורג במקום בו נאספו וגורשו 6504 יהודים מתוכם 300 תושבי פרייבורג למחנה גירס בגבול צרפת - ספרד ב-.22/10/1940 רבים מהם מתו מהתנאים הקשים במחנה אלה ששרדו, נשלחו ב-אוגוסט 1942 להשמדה במחנות אושוויץ ומידאנק.
Deutsch: Gedenktafel am Freiburger Platz der alten Synagoge für die durch die sog. Wagner-Bürckel-Aktion deportierten Juden von Baden und der Pfalz. Inschrift: "Am 22. Oktober 1940 wurden innerhalb weniger Stunden 6.504 jüdische Männer, Frauen und Kinder aus Baden und der Pfalz zu zentralen Sammellagern gebracht und in Transportzügen in das Lager Gurs in Südfrankreich deportiert. Der älteste der Deportierten war 97 Jahre alt. Unter ihnen befanden sich auch etwa 300 jüdische Bürger aus Freiburg.

Die im Lager Gurs Inhaftierten wurden ab August 1942, soweit sie noch nicht in Gurs selbst an Hunger und Krankheit gestorben waren, in die Vernichtungslager im Osten, vor allem nach Auschwitz und Maidanek, deportiert. Über 5.200 der nach Gurs Deportierten starben als Opfer der Gewalt.

Zuviele haben damals weggesehen, zuwenige haben Widerstand geleistet. Das darf und wird sich nicht wiederholen.
