and Sicily,by A. C. Hare; and Sicily, byAugustus Schneegans. This last Concluding Remarks. A tour in Sicily will not disappointany intelligent traveller, but forfull enjoyment of the country somepreparation is necessary. For aproper appreciation of such placesas Palermo, Syracuse, Girgenti, andSelinunte, a knowledge of Sicilianhistory, and some slight acquaint-ance with Hellenic and Mediaevalart are indispensable. The classicalstudent will find Sicily an inex-haustible mine of interest. Thearchaeologist may gratify his tasteswithout limit. The flora of thecountry is highly interesting, andthe botanist may pass manypleasant and instructive hours inthe Orto Botanico of Palermo. Theaverage tourist, whose aims are con-fined to rest, change, and the enjoy-ment of new scenes and agreeablescenery, will thoroughly enjoySicily, but he will feel that ahigher enjoyment is reserved forthose who can enter into thewonderful history and marvellousremains of this charming andbeautiful island.
