[edit]DescriptionGrumman F4F-3 Wildcat - Butch O'Hare White F-15 Replica at ORD.jpg |
English: Grumman F4F-3 Wildcat BuNum 12320, on display at Terminal 2 in O'Hare International Airport, Chicago Illinois, USA.
This Aircraft was salvaged from Lake Michigan, lost there as a result of a training incident, and restored to replicate and honour "White F-15", an identical aircraft flown by LCDR Edward "Butch" O"Hare USN. While defending USS Lexington (CV-2) during The Action off Bougainville, O'Hare's actions resulted in his being awarded The Congressional Medal Of Honour by shooting down 3 Mitsubishi G4M1 "Betty" Bombers along with two damaged, singlehandedly while his sole wingman's guns were jammed. |
