English: The gurnard ( Trigla lucerna or Chelidonichthys lucerna ) is a fish living on sandy, muddy or gravel bottoms, between 20 and 300 m deep. It is found in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean (especially the western Mediterranean), as well as in the Black Sea. It is characterized by its pectoral fin which, when the individual begins to swim, shows its underside decorated with a bright blue border. We can also observe a central black area speckled with blue. This bluish coloration fades with age. The gurnard-perlon also has the particularity (like its congeners in the Triglidae family) of producing a sound when it feels in danger. This sound, emitted thanks to the vibration of its swim bladder, gives it its vernacular name of "gurnard". |
