English: Greta bridges - A66 Bridge near Threlkeld. Between the former Keswick and Threlkeld stations, the disused Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith Railway crossed the River Greta no fewer than 8 times in a distance of only 4 miles. All these bridges are of the bow-string girder construction, of various sizes and alignments. In addition, the same stretch saw it crossing the Greta's main feeder, the River Glenderamackin, although the bridge here is of a simpler design. This stretch of railway, which opened in 1865 and closed in 1972, has now been converted into a footpath/cycleway, so all the bridges are easily accessible. Also included in the series are the two viaducts by which the A66 crosses the Greta, and the interesting Threlkeld Bridge on the old A594. The A66 passes high over the river at this point (although not as gracefully as the Greta Bridge on the Keswick bypass, seen near the start of this series, or at 771929 if this is being viewed on a standalone basis). In the background can be seen Blease Fell and the first part of the summit ridge of Blencathra, above the deeply cut valley of Blease Gill. Under the bridge can just be seen Bridge 8 on the old railway.
