The Great Pyramid of Giza (also known as the Pyramid of Khufu or the Pyramid of Cheops) is the oldest and largest of the three pyramids in the Giza pyramid complex bordering what is now El Giza, Egypt. It is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the only one to remain largely intact. Source Wikipedia. Most people don't realise that these pyramids are very close to the suburbs of Cairo, and not in some remote location. The Great Pyramid dates from more than 2500 BC. It stands 146.7 metres (481 ft) high and although no-one knows for certain how it was built there is no doubt that it was a gigantic task which must have involved thousands of people. |
