The Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument spans nearly 1.9 million acres of America’s public lands in southern Utah. From its stunning Grand Staircase of cliffs and terraces, across the rugged Kaiparowits Plateau, to the wonders of the Escalante River canyons, the monument’s size and remote character offer a spectacular array of scenic, scientific, and historic resources. World-class dinosaur excavations here have yielded more information about ecosystem change at the end of the dinosaur era than almost any other place in the world. Among the fossil finds, paleontologists have identified dinosaurs not previously known to have inhabited this area, as well as several new species and dozens of soft tissue impressions. One documented species, Kosmoceratops richardsoni, is the most ornate-headed dinosaur ever found. Designated by Presidential proclamation on September 18, 1996, the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is the Bureau of Land Management’s first and largest national monument. Today, it is part of the BLM’s National Landscape Conservation System. The vintage posters will be available at BLM state offices in both postcard and poster formats within the next few weeks. Requests for paper posters can also be sent to asmall@blm.gov. Please include the word POSTER in the subject line and provide your name, mailing address, and the number and type of poster. Requests are limited to five posters per recipient. 6/17 |
