English: Grand Hotel, Torquay. The Victorian Grand Hotel seen along Torre Abbey Sands. "It opened in 1881 as the Great Western Hotel with only 12 bedrooms and a main entrance on the north; it was approached by a carriage drive with a connecting outlet to the station, this back drive was covered over allowing passengers who had arrived by train to cross to the hotel without getting wet. Enlarged in 1908, 1911 and
1926" http://www.torbay.gov.uk/rd-chelstonconservationareaappraisal.pdf . To its left is Seaway Court, a block of flats built in 1972. |
