[edit]DescriptionGrand Canyon Nat. Park Trail Crew Inner Canyon 1115 (7309573340).jpg |
During February of 2012 Grand Canyon's Trail Crew rebuilt a 100 foot section of wet stone masonry wall just above "The Box" in Bright Angel Canyon. NPS Photo by Kristen M. Caldon The North Kaibab Trail runs very closely to Bright Angel Creek, which is subject to seasonal flooding. In order to protect the trail and the trans-canyon pipeline in which the trail harbors, there are miles of wet stone walls to support trail structure from erosion. This particular section of trail took a crew of 8 people about 14 days to complete. Rock materials were mined from local sources, and all mortar, mixers and other supplies were flown to the site by helicopter. |
