Summary

[edit]
Description
English:
The building as it appears today
The Golden State Hotel at 207 2nd Avenue S. Completed by the end of 1889, it was built by Abraham W. Engle (a lawyer and early Yakima developer) and H.B. McElroy (a judge from Olympia). The architect was John Nestor, who had also designed a large office building for Engle in Yakima that same year. It served as a hotel soon after completion, commonly known as the Golden State Hotel. Already missing its wooden cornice and showing signs of structural issues by the time of this 1930s tax photo, the building would lose its top 2 floors and any trace of its original appearance after the 1949 earthquake.
