English: Treasure Case: 2011 T721

Date: 17th Century

Description: Post-Medieval gold posy ring, squashed. Exterior decorated with flowers of varying style, including pansy and quatrefoil. Traces of green, yellow and white enamel remain.

Interior inscribed: Conceaue [conceive] consent confeirme content. No maker's mark.

Discussion: For inscription comparison ring in British Museum collections AF.1218, dated 16th - 17th Century which is also decorated on exterior with hearts arrows and other symbols.

Dimensions: Weight: 1.8g Diameter: 21.41mm (at largest point) Band Width: 3.57mm Thickness: 0.92mm

Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
