Summary
[edit]DescriptionGoethe-Schiller Monument - Syracuse.jpg |
English: Photograph of the Goethe–Schiller Monument in Syracuse, New York (1911). Goethe is at the reader's left; he holds a laurel wreath in his own right hand, and is resting his left hand lightly on Schiller's shoulder. Schiller, to the reader's right, is grasping a scroll of writing paper in his own left hand. His right hand is open and extended slightly towards the wreath. Goethe is in the formal dress from the statue's era; Schiller is in ordinary attire. The statue is based on Ernst Rietschel's model that was first used to cast the statue for the Goethe–Schiller Monument (1857) in Weimar, Germany. The Syracuse statue has a small plaque on its base marked "Galvanoplastik - Geislingen St.", which identifies it as an electrotyped copper statue produced by the Abteilung für Galvanoplastik of the WMF Company in Geislingen an der Steige, Germany. The monument was restored in 2003; Sharon BuMann did the restoration of the statue itself. [1][2] |
