The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Aqua satellite flew over the Sea of Okhotsk and acquired a true-color image of tan dust from the Gobi Desert suspended in the clouds.

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: On May 3, 2017, strong spring winds roared across the Gobi Desert and lifted a large amount of sand and dust into the atmosphere. Over the next week, the dust crossed part of Mongolia, China, eastern Russia, the Korean Peninsula, and part of Japan darkening skies and dropping air quality, especially in China. The storm then moved across the Pacific Ocean, with some of the dust reaching Alaska on May 11. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Aqua satellite flew over the Sea of Okhotsk and acquired a true-color image of tan dust from the Gobi Desert suspended in the clouds. A small amount of the eastern coast of Russia can be seen in the northwest section of the image, where the air is clear.
