Summary

[edit]
Description
  • Italiano: Wilhelm von Gloeden (1856–1931), "Tripolitana". Numero di catalogo: 2703. Timbrata. Questa stampa è datata 31-7-1914. Cm 19x25.
  • English: Wilhelm von Gloeden (1856–1931), Girl from Tripolis in Lybia (Actually, "Maria" from Taormina). Catalogue number 2703. Stamped. This print is dated 7-31-1914. 19x25 cm. The envelope of the negative 2305 (but marked on the glass as n. 1773), now at the Alinari Foundation in Florence, which portrays the same model in the same clothes, identifies her as "Maria Tripolitana"; she is therefore Maria Intelisano, from Taormina, in orientalist costume. The title is clearly a reflection of Italy's colonial conquest of Libya in 1911.
