Summary

[edit]
Description

The Glen Dean Formation is an Upper Mississippian shale and limestone unit in Kentucky. Fossils are abundant and include bryozoans (including fenestrates - sheet fragments and Archimedes corkscrews), pelmatozoan stems (many are encrusted with bryozoans), crinoid heads (including the stemless crinoid Agassizocrinus), blastoid heads (Pentremites pyriformis), articulate brachiopods, encrusting inarticulate brachiopods, solitary rugose corals, straight-shelled nautiloid cephalopods, and encrusting spirorbid worm tubes (having tubercles or spine bases).

An encrusted limestone paleopebble (mobile hardground) was found here during this visit. It had multiple encrusting bryozoans, an apparent crinoid holdfast, and multiple spirorbid worm tubes attached to the surface.
