Summary
[edit]DescriptionGirlsta loch, small island. - geograph.org.uk - 619528.jpg |
English: Girlsta loch, small island. Loch of Girlsta, island.
Girlsta takes its name from Geirhilder, who was the daughter of the Viking Hrafna flocki who over-wintered in Shetland before setting out to colonise Iceland. Unfortunately Geirhilder was drowned in the loch after falling through the ice. Tradition says that she was buried on the small island in the loch. |
