Summary
[edit]DescriptionGhost Village, Jazira Alhamra, Ras Al Khaimah 04.jpg |
English: The Ghost Village in Ras Al Khaimah had been an old pearl fishing village for hundreds of years, but it’s last residents moved away in the 1960’s and the village has been abandoned. It is falling apart and not suitable to drive around, so you must go on foot, but be careful, as everything is crumbling. Look out for the remains of old murals painted on the walls, and note the ‘bricks’ of the oldest buildings are actually made up of beautiful corals from the sea, carefully arranged in diagonal lines. There is evidence of the old ‘Areesh’ palm frond roofs too. If you stand in the middle of the village, you can enjoy peace and quiet and you might be lucky to see beautiful tiny geckos on the coral bricks and rare birds, such as the tiny black hummingbird, flying around the old houses. Please tread carefully and treat the village with respect. It’s beautiful and sad that it is slowly eroding away. I hope someone realises it’s historical importance soon and preserves the village, it could be a wonderful historical tourist destination for the future... |
