English: Gerd Spittler (born 1939) is a German ethnologist. He was instrumental in developing the focus on Africa at the University of Bayreuth. His research made significant contributions to the Tuareg nomads and to the ethnology of work, the ethnology of material needs, local action in a global context, and research methodology.
Deutsch: Gerd Spittler (geboren 1939) ist deutscher Ethnologe. Er war maßgeblich beteiligt am Aufbau des Afrikaschwerpunktes an der Universität Bayreuth. Seine Forschung lieferte wesentliche Beiträge zu den Tuareg-Nomaden sowie zur Ethnologie der Arbeit, der Ethnologie materieller Bedürfnisse, lokales Handeln im globalen Kontext sowie zur Methodik der Forschung.
Français : Gerd Spittler (né en 1939) est un ethnologue allemand. Il a joué un rôle déterminant dans le développement de l'accent mis sur l'Afrique à l'Université de Bayreuth.
