Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Montreal, Ottawa and Georgian Bay Canal, also known as the Georgian Bay Ship Canal, would connect the upper Great Lakes at Georgian Bay to Montreal via North Bay and Ottawa. This route map, prepared in 1907, shows the route through Lake Nippising, the Mattawa, Ottawa and finally into the St. Lawrence at Lachine. The total route is 440 miles, but most of this is on existing lakes and rivers, with little cutting required. The system would drop a total of 677 feet from the peak on the Mattawa to its end on the upstream side of Lachine. A series of detailed maps showing each section is available here.
