La Leçon de dessin dépeint un instant studieux mettant en scène des élèves concentrées sur l’apprentissage artistique. Elles s'appliquent à dessiner un bouquet de fleurs posé devant elles. À cette époque, les femmes de la bourgeoisie pratiquaient fréquemment la peinture de bouquets de fleurs, un exercice artistique raffiné et valorisé. Cette représentation met en lumière l'univers de l'enseignement artistique féminin, à une époque où les femmes commençaient à obtenir plus de reconnaissance dans les arts. Les fleurs, symboles classiques de beauté et de délicatesse, renforcent l’aspect poétique de la scène. Cette œuvre célèbre le rôle central des femmes dans la transmission du savoir artistique à une époque de transition vers la modernité.
