Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The George W. Wheeler House, 80 Ashland Avenue, Buffalo, New York, August 2021. A Queen Anne-style design that's fairly typical of the work of Buffalo-based architect Charles Day Swan, the Wheeler House features most of the requisite elements of both Swan's signature style and Queen Anne architecture in general: the front gable is enormous and encloses a tripartite attic window with a polygonal bowed projection above, the full-width front porch features a polygonal projection at its left side and is adorned with Classical touches such as Doric columns and a handsome spindle balustrade, and - perhaps most interestingly - the second-floor bay window is set into an octagonal recess in the façade. 80 Ashland was the longtime home of prominent Niagara Falls-born attorney George Welles Wheeler (1856-1924) who lived there from its completion in 1889 until his death.
