General street view, showing horse-drawn buggies.

Notes: 19th century view of Canal Street, (c. 1870s?) looking towards the old Touro Building which stretched on the downriver side from Bourbon to Royal Streets. Horse drawn carriages are seen in street. Along neutral ground are a pair of tracks for horse-trams. A single telegraph pole is seen; no other signs of electrification visible. Streets are paved with "Belgian blocks". Deep gutters line the neutral ground with metal crossing plates at the intersections. On the neutral ground side of the gutters are rows of the old metal bollards with chains. (See File:ColSqLanterns.jpg for a modern photo of one of the few of these old bollards still in existance in the 21st century.)
