English: General John Kelly, commander of U.S. Southern Command, walks to take control of a formation of Marines and Sailors assigned to Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force South and the future amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) aboard America, Aug. 31, 2014. Gen. Kelly addressed the formation and spoke to the significance of the work the Marines and Sailors have accomplished. The ship has been transiting around South America on her maiden transit, “America Visits the Americas,” making port visits with our partners in the region. During each port visit, the Marines and Sailors have participated in key leader engagements, theater security cooperation events and hosted distinguished guests for tours and formal receptions. This transit clearly demonstrates the unparalleled capabilities that the Navy-Marine Corps team brings to our nation and partners. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Donald Holbert/ Released) |
