English: Commemorative plaque located near the entrance of Gothenburg city hall, Sweden, honoring the achievements of admiral James Saumarez during the Napoleonic war 1808-1812.
The inscription on the upper frame reads in translation: A friend of our city and our country in war and peace. The swedish inscription below the profile and name reads in translation: Commander of a powerful brittish naval force with "Victory" as flagship who was located at Vinga during the evil years 1808-12. In many ways thanks to his friendship, wisdom and strenght Gothenburg avoided the calamities of war. Letter correspondence with swedish admiral Balzar von Platen follows further down.Svenska: Minnestavla placerad vid ingången till Göteborgs stadshus hedrande den brittiske amiralen James Saumarez och hans agerande under Napoleonkriget 1808-12. |
