Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The minaret with its spirals. Karatarla mosque was built as a prayer room, but in 1621 was extended and became a mosque, paid for by Yürükzade Gergerizade Halil Çavuş. In 1775 it took its present form. Another name for it is Zincirli (Chained) mosque. Until the 20th century it had an earth roof (not a clue what that is), but was then tiled. The cone at the top of the minaret was destroyed during the French occupation, but has been rebuilt. The stone in the main shaft spirals. Muqarnas and ceramic tiles decorate the underside of the balcony. A notice indicates it is the most elegant one in town. In 2014 the mosque was restored.
