Cest alors que lui vintlidée de dessiner et de publier ces Caprices célèbres, dont un grandnombre renferme une intention philosophique et humanitaire. Il se trou-vait, en effet, plus sauvegardé avec ces quelques figures dessinées exprèstrès-vaguement, que les écrivains qui nosaient publier même de petitesbrochures innocentes. Goya commença à former sa collection vers 1793. En prenant unebonne partie dans ses derniers dessins, en en modifiant quelques-uns, enexprimant dans dautres plus nettement ses intentions, il avait préparé jus-quà 112 dessins au lieu de 79 qui forment la suite connue des amateurs.Nous possédons ces 112 dessins, et nous parlerons de ces 35 inéd
