Notes respirator (gas mask) and canister in satchel, part of collection of souvenirs collected in Palestine by 3-289 Sgt. JT Peat, New Zealand Field Ambulance, WW1 3-289 Sergeant John Trevor Peat, m-i-d, Mounted Field Ambulance, N.Z. Medical Corps, came from Dargaville and went with the Reinforcement draft "Manuka" 29 July 1915. He died of disease at Kantara, in Palestine on 17 November 1918. He was aged 26 years, a single man, his next of kin was his brother, Robert John Peat of Dargaville. He is buried at the Kantara War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt London Gazette, 1 December 1916, p11808- "Mentioned in despatches from General Sir Alexander Murray, K.C.B., Commander-in-Chief, Egyptian Expeditionary Force."
