Description

Ensemble de gargouilles

Sculptures romanes dans le cloître des Augustins

Le musée des Augustins, musée des Beaux-arts de la ville de Toulouse, installé au coeur historique de la cité dans un remarquable bâtiment conventuel, caractéristique du gothique méridional, abrite depuis 1793 des collections de peinture et de sculpture du début du Moyen Âge aux premières années du XXe siècle.

Leur variété et leur richesse permettent d'évoquer les étapes majeures de l'histoire de l'art occidental. Très riche musée de sculptures, le musée des Augustins possède un fonds unique au monde de sculptures romanes, et présente également un ensemble de chefs-d'oeuvre de la sculpture gothique méridionale ainsi que de nombreuses sculptures du XIXe siècle, représentatives de la vitalité de la création artistique toulousaine.
