Description

Gardien de porte (Dvâra pâla) du sanctuaire du temple Preah Kô

Ce temple dont le nom signifie "Taureau sacré" fait partie du groupe de Rolûos (situé à 15Km de Siemreap) avec les temples Bakong et Lolei.

Il date des années 877-893, il est le temple du roi Indravarman 1er dont le palais devait se trouver à proximité. Il était consacré au culte de Shiva dont la monture est le taureau Nandin.

Il est construit en briques avec des décors en stuc et des encadrements de porte ou de fenêtre en grès sculpté, Plusieurs sculptures en grès ont été encastrées dans les murs, elles ont été déplacées dans les musées pour des raisons de conservation. Certains décors ont été sculptés directement dans les briques. Les chaussées sont pavées de dalles de latérite qui est le matériau utilisé aussi pour les murs d'enceinte.

Les six tours centrales du temple, orientées à l'est, sont construites sur un socle de 31 m sur 24m recouvert de plaques de grès. Les tours étaient consacrées aux ancêtres divinisés du Roi et à leurs épouses, car il s'agit d'un temple commémoratif. Elles possèdent des linteaux finement sculptés de grande qualité esthétique.
