Description
English: Frankish sword of the 10th century, found in Trier, formerly of the collection of Major H. Galopin of Geneva. Closeup of the hilt section.

Literature: Notes sur la collection d'armes anciennes du major Henry Galopin, Genève (1913), planche 8, no. 1.

Galopin noted "runic characters" in the pommel, visible in the form of a letter M in this image (there is no reason to assume it represents an actual rune rather than a Latin M, as according to Galopin the sword was found in Trier and not in Scandinavia)
