Summary

[edit]
Description

Mary Seacole Memorial by Martin Jennings, 2016, outside St Thomas' Hospital, London. Seacole (1805–1881) was a Jamaican nurse who helped treat the wounded and save lives in the Crimean War (1853–1856). The statue was unveiled by Baroness Floella Benjamin OBE, Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London, in June 2016, and was the newest artwork on the walk. This is believed to be believed to be the first statue in the UK dedicated to a named black woman.

GOC Hertfordshire's walk on 12 November 2016, a 7.4-mile point-to-point walk to look at various artworks, statues and memorials in parts of the London Borough of Lambeth and City of Westminster in London, including Lambeth, Westminster, Belgravia and Hyde Park. John T led the walk, which was attended by 13 people in total (and a dog).
