English: From Spit Sand Fort From one of the gun platforms on Spit Sand Fort, the view of the deep water channel into Portsmouth (between the port/red and starboard/green buoys) is clear. The forts were built because French ships were considered a threat, yet none would have got past here. These days we let French ships in. |
