Notes |
English: First variant of the same portrait, which was displayed in Museum of Frederiksborg. This painting belongs to a series of portraits that Amerling made of his friends. He painted each of these portraits twice. The first variant (!) was signed by the sitter and remained in Amerling's collection as a rememberance, the second variant was given to the sitter as a gift.
This portrait is mentioned in the preface of Amerling's Estate Sale Catalogue, 1916. Friedrich Stern, the author of the preface, describes the contents of Amerling's house and mentions a private room, in which Amerling had portraits of his friends. |
