Description |
English: The galleon Friderich was named after king Frederick III of Denmark, and it was delivered to the Danish Navy in 1649. It was built at Neustadt under the supervision of admiral Christopher Lindenow. The admiral commissioned this painting, which was placed at the family's castle at Gavnø, where it still is. Because of its ornaments - referring to the Order of the Elephant - it was also called Den hvide Elefant (The White Elephant). This copy has been slightly cropped to the right, see the "other versions" for the full painting. |
