Summary
[edit]DescriptionFrederich Hecker, 24th and 82nd Illinois Volunteer Infantry (Union).jpg |
English: Bust portrait surrounded by image of a frame. German script below image. "Frederich Hecker" (written on reverse side).
Hecker was an agitator in the failed 1848 Revolution in Germany. Came to the United States and formed the 24th and 82nd Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiments during the Civil War. He lived from 1811 to 1881. This print appears to be a memorial for Hecker. Five lines of German script are printed below image. A translator is needed to interpret meaning. However, "St. Louis" is in the last line below image. The German connection in St. Louis is obvious. He also encamped at St. Charles with the 24th Illinois and served under Siegel with the 82nd Illinois.Title: Frederich Hecker, 24th and 82nd Illinois Volunteer Infantry (Union). |
