Deutsch: In unmittelbarer Nähe zur mächtigen gotischen Elisabethkirche in Marburg fällt die Ruine der früheren Franziskuskapelle kaum auf.
1228 kam die Heilige Elisabeth nach Marburg und gründete ein Hospital, in dem sie die Armen und Kranken der Stadt versorgte. Nach geschichtlicher Überlieferung wurde Elisabeth nach ihrem frühen Tod 1231 in der Kapelle beigesetzt. Die Kapelle wurde nach dem Hl. Franz von Assisi benannt. Er war im 13. Jahrhundert ein einflussreicher Vertreter der Armutsbewegung. Zur gleichen Zeit als die Elisabethkirche erbaut wurde, errichtete der Deutsche Ritterorden in seinem Bezirk um 1249 ein Spital zum Gedenken an die aufopferungsvolle Arbeit der Heiligen Elisabeth. Später diente das Hospital den zahlreichen Pilgern zum Grab der Heiligen auch als Herberge. Noch bis ins 19. Jahrhundert wurde der ursprüngliche Bau als Klinikum der Universität genutzt. Erst im Jahre 1887 wurde das Hospital am Pilgrimstein abgerissen. Erhalten blieb nur die Ruine des gotischen Chorraums der Franziskuskapelle.This is a photograph of an architectural monument.
