Description

Frank's Island Lighthouse, design by Benjamin Henry Latrobe, 1816


This lighthouse was set at "Frank's Island" or "Frank Island", in Louisiana at the mouth of the Mississippi River. Built in 1818, it collapsed the following year due to problems with the muddy foundation, and was replaced by a lighthouse of different design.
