English: Founders and Benefactors Book of Tewkesbury Abbey: Fol. 26v Text page with ten shields, two partly erased. Fol. 27r Isabel Despenser, daughter of Thomas Despenser, baroness of Tewkesbury, in the chantry chapel she had built 1423 at Tewkesbury following her husband’s death in 1421. Framed by twisted columns and an ogee arch, wearing a blue and gold headdress and long heraldic surcoat with the coats of arms of de Clare, Despenser and Warwick; she kneels on a green tiled floor, in prayer before a painted sculpture of the Virgin and Child on a pedestal of a twisted column. Two shields, three outlined, but not filled in. |
