English: U.S. Army Col. James Adams, deputy commander of the 2nd Brigade combat team, 3rd Infantry Division, watches realtime surveillance video footage June 25, as 13,500 lbs. of ordinance dropped from a U.S. Air Force B-1 bomber destroys a suspected explosives laden roadway south of Baghdad, Iraq. The B-1 from the 379th Expeditionary Wing, based in Southwest Asia was controlled onto its target by U.S. Air Force Joint Tactical Air Control Party airmen directly assigned to provide support to the 2nd BCT. Air Force JTACs provide a critical link between their Army customers and the air power assets brought to bear on any given operation. This bombing mission severed a suspected main supply route used by Iraqi insurgents to bring accelerants from the south into the Baghdad area. The 3rd Infantry Division "Rock of the Marne" is deployed from Ft. Stewart, Ga. |
