Summary
[edit]DescriptionFortezza Medicea Montepulciano dal giardino 4.jpg |
Italiano: Fortezza Medicea
English: Medicea Fortress
Apparently it was originally a castle, it seems to date back to the 6th / 7th century AD. in the middle of the Lombard period. Located on the highest point to control both Trasimeno and Valdorcia. The Sienese, after the victory of Monteaperti in 1260, transformed it into their fortress. It is named Medicea because its latest renovation was designed by Antonio da Sangallo the Elder, a Renaissance architect, son of the architect of Cosimo de 'Medici. Today the Fortress is used both as a university institute and as an exhibition stand for the various exhibitions that take place in Montepulciano.
