Summary
[edit]DescriptionFormer University City Library, Trinity Avenue, University City, MO.jpg |
English: Built in 1939, this Classical Revival-style building was constructed to house the University City Public Library, which remained in the building until 1969, when the collection, which had grown too large for the building, necessitated the construction of a new, larger facility nearby. The former library was subsequently renovated for adaptive reuse to house the prison facilities of the University City Police Department on the lower level, along with the Annony Arts Center on the upper level. The building features a buff brick exterior, limestone trim, fifteen-over-fifteen and twelve-over-twelve double-hung windows, pediments at the front and rear facades of the building, oxeye and fanlight windows, and a main entrance from Trinity Avenue with a decorative trim surround, including a broken pediment. The building is a contributing structure in the University Heights Subdivision Number One Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. |
