Summary
[edit]DescriptionFormer Site of Holbeck Hall Hotel - geograph.org.uk - 1582394.jpg |
English: Former Site of Holbeck Hall Hotel. This fenced-off area in Scarborough is all that is left of the Holbeck Hall Hotel in Scarborough. In June 1993, over the course of just a few days, the land it was built on simply slipped into the sea, even though it was no further from the edge than the other buildings still visible in the photo. One morning a few weeks prior to this event cracks appeared in the rose garden to the rear of the property, the rest is history as this made international news. This area of Scarborough is still notorious for coastal erosion/landslip problems. Last year it was some holiday homes at Knipe point, less than a mile down the coast from here whose turn it was to 'go over the edge'. |
